Portable Appliance Testing Service

Why do I need Portable Appliance Testing

Most businesses today use portable electrical appliances in some way so it’s important they’re regularly checked and inspected. Business owners and employers are legally responsible for their staff’s safety and this involves making sure all of their equipment undergoes regular inspections

The legal regulations you need to adhere too are:

  • Health and Safety at Work Act of 1974
  • Electricity at Work Regulations of 1989
  • Provision and Use of Work Equipment regulations of 1998
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work regulations of 1999
  • Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992

PAT Testing is a series of tests and inspections that determine whether a portable appliance is safe to use and fit for purpose. This is vital because everyday wear and tear can lead to damage and the risk of fire or electrical shocks.

How often does a PAT test need to be done?

There are a number of factors that contribute to how often you should conduct your PAT Test which include the type industry, environment, the type of electrical appliance, and how often it’s used.

Also affecting the frequency of inspection required is the ‘class’ of your appliances.

      • Class 1 appliances - an earthed appliance
      • Class 2 appliances - a double insulated appliance
      • Class 3 appliances - low voltage equipment

Who can perform PAT Testing?

The person responsible for your PAT Testing work must be competent to do so. A competent person is someone who has sufficient training and experience or technical knowledge.

Our PAT Testing service will give you complete peace of mind.

We can provide experienced qualified engineers who will inspect your portable electrical appliances, individually label each item, provide plug and fuse changes if required, supply you with a comprehensive report and provide you with a certificate upon completion.
